The Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association of Georgia, (PHCC of GA) is the oldest state construction trade association and the premier organization for the plumbing profession. PHCC of GA created the PHCC GA Academy in 2014 to provide training for a 4-yr apprenticeship program. PHCC GA Academy received approval and certification from the US Department of Labor to operate a 4-year registered Plumbing apprenticeship program. Our apprenticeship program is recognized and certified by the US Department of Labor/Bureau of Apprenticeship Training.
Students participating in apprenticeship program must meet two key requirements during each of the four years: (1) 160 classroom hours and (2) 2,000 on-the-job learning hours. Participants in the PHCC GA Academy program will attend face-to-face classes to meet the 160 classroom hour requirement. The student’s employer will be responsible for helping the student meet the 2,000 hour on-the-job requirement.
A standing committee of PHCC contractor members oversees the operation of our apprenticeship program.
Workers who achieve journey-level status by completing an apprenticeship program have the opportunity to earn above-average wages. As they gain skill, they are compensated through increases in wages and benefits, a heightened profile within the community, and satisfaction gained by providing services essential to our quality of life. At the successful completion of the apprenticeship, they become skilled journey-level workers and have a greater opportunity for obtaining license.

PHCC GA ACADEMY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
WHAT IS REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP?
Registered Apprenticeship is a formalized training program combining on-the-job training and related technical instruction in which paid employees receive practical and technical training in a highly skilled occupation. Apprenticeships last four years. During this time, apprentices work and learn under the direction of experienced journey workers. Over time, apprentices are provided the diversity and complexity of training that leads to becoming highly skilled in their occupations. Our training classes are held during the evening hours, allowing students to complete a full work day gaining on-the-job experience and putting their training to practice. Our combination of “Hands-On” training and classroom theory is under the supervision of our field-experienced instructors preparing our graduates with marketable job skills. Classroom demonstrations and guest speakers are incorporated when practical. Hands-on-Training, lab time and homework are all part of the normal curriculum. This program is administered by PHCC GA Academy through its Advisory Committee, which is composed of contractors who possess a deep abiding interest in training and education of the industry. |
